India won the ODI series by a margin of 2-1, the visitors fought hard in the last two games. In the third ODI, Man in Blue saw the rest of the first players selected and took out more than five hats, indicating that they are not afraid to lose the game due to a clear understanding of the big picture.
India plans to amass an army of world-class international cricketers, but they will not want to experiment in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. This is their last international assignment before the T20 World Cup, and many players need a run in the game to show what they are made of.
These are the three Indian players who could be on the bench for the full series of the T20 series against Sri Lanka.
# 3 Nitish Rana
Nitish Rana had received his first call-up from the Indian team for this tour of Sri Lanka, and he had stepped into the ODIs a few days back. However, the team management’s plan to play at number seven as a batting all-rounder did not materialize. Rana single-handedly bowled just seven runs and bowled overs without three wickets before Dananjaya was the lone batsman.
Now, in the T20I format, there is no place for Rana in the team. The top five slots are dominated by expert batsmen like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav, all of whom have excelled at some point in the ODI series.
Rana will have to wait a long time before India gets a second chance to dawn in blue.
# 2 Kuldeep Yadav
It was expected that this would be Sri Lanka’s responsibility for Kuldeep Yadav’s lifeline. But halfway through the tour, it would not be a stretch to claim that there was another disappointment for India, despite its own mistakes.
Kuldeep played the first two ODIs, took two wickets in the opener of the series and went without a wicket in the second. It took time for them to score consecutive runs in the matches, but as India moved towards the rotation, it was left in the last ODI.
The form of T20I has not been a cup of Kuldeep’s tea in the last few years. He has now warmed up the bench of Kolkata Knight Riders for two seasons, in which very few wickets have been shown whenever he has got a rare opportunity in Game XI.
After that, other routes like Rahul Chahar and Yuzwinder Chahal, with sharp hesitation in front of them, left-arm wrist spinners cannot go on the field. Varun Chakraborty is yet to make his debut, and Colonel Pandya’s batting ability ensures that he will be the third spinner.
Kuldeep can warm up the bench during the T20 series against Sri Lanka.
# 1 Manish Pandey
At the end of the ODI series, the consensus among most fans was that Manish Pandey probably played his last 50 overs for India. Has the 31-year-old played not only his last ODI but also his last international for the team?
Sanju Samson scored 46 runs for the first time in ODIs. Ishan Kishan also scored a magical fifty in his first ODI. Surya Kumar went on to win the Man of the Series award after the first three outs in the Yadav format.
Starting at No. 6, India needs to field all-rounders. The three batsmen mentioned above can be cast in the way that Pandey is fit for the T20 World Cup, starting today.
