5 Questions to Ask Yourself If You’re Thinking About Becoming a Health Coach

Jessica Abo: Tell us about the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN).

Jim Curtis:

For those interested in going this route, what can you tell us about the course and how it is structured?

Curtis:
The reason we set up the curriculum this way is because it takes you down a learning path that allows you to change your behavior and make real change. So it starts with the explanation of primary foods. So these are all the things that you eat, that feed you, that are not food on your plate. They are relationships, spirituality, connection to other people and your career. Secondary foods are really the foods that are on your plate and we teach 144 different dietary principles. So we do it in a six or twelve month program and by the end of it, you’re ready to go out and either live your life better and enjoy yourself and your family, your friends or other people in your community. Health can change. , become a health coach and really start coaching people as a career because we also teach coaching skills and vocational skills, or many people who graduate do many other things in wellness.

What are some of those things? What are some of the careers that people pursue after graduation?

Curtis:
People often think that the only career you can pursue upon graduating as a health coach is to become a health coach. And that’s definitely a career. That’s why people coach other people to improve their lives and improve their health, and many times they choose a niche, so you’re a hormone health coach or you’re a health coach who works through changing the subconscious. focus on behavior change. Through hypnosis, or you focus on gut health or many other things. But there are many other things you can do as a health trainer as you begin to give credibility to the product you want to make. You can write books, become a content creator, or go to work for a doctor’s office or wellness center. Lastly, Jim, what do you think are the five things someone should think about if they’re considering becoming a health coach?

Curtis:
This is a really good question and I think it really starts with education. There are so many options out there where you can actually get educated, and often people start mentoring and training people without any formal education. Formal education is much more than just understanding nutrition. You begin to understand how to coach people, how to be a guide, and then the business around that.

So the first thing you should consider is where you are going to get an education, what do you want in a school, and how are you going to use that credential.

The other part that I think you should consider is a lifestyle. Do you want a lifestyle that gives you the freedom to set your own schedule and work the hours you want to work, but also find clients and schedule with them, which means working on your own schedule? Freedom to do even there is a tendency to create a slight ambiguity when you will be working? Or do you want to be someone who has a more structured job than can be in an office and works 9 to 5? This will really help you identify what kind of health coach you want to be.
