President Biden’s approval rating has been epic low, but at a Thanksgiving Day stop at a New England Coast Guard station, they suddenly reached single digits.
A man from Nantucket presented Biden’s car procession with his middle finger on Thursday when the unpopular commander made the holiday interrupt during his stay at a billionaire’s island facility.
Bidens approval rating is collapsing middle of the highest inflation in 31 years, which has pushed up the cost of everything from Turkey’s dinners to gas, and he has increasingly been met with vulgar gestures and rhymes even when visiting deep blue states.
White House Pool Reporter Zolan Kanno-Youngs wrote that there was a general friendly welcome when Biden’s car procession made the visit, but that reporters “saw a gentleman standing on his porch and pointing the president’s car procession as we approached the Coast Guard station.”
Other spectators thumbed up and applauded. “One person appeared [be] wearing a dinosaur costume. A couple of people wore turkey hats, ”according to a pool report.
Biden and first lady Jill exchanged treats with sailors at the station before returning to their holiday home, which is owned by billionaire David Rubenstein.
The president gave the Coast Guard members “challenge coins” that some soldiers collect to celebrate their service.
“I’m not kidding when I say I’m grateful for these guys,” Biden said of Coast Guard members, saying he had seen their work around the world, including in the South China Sea, where China and other regional countries have conflicting territorial claims.
Jill Biden told the group that the first family planned to attend Massachusetts Island’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Friday.
This year, inflation has driven the cost of the classic Thanksgiving dinner in Turkey and other countries up 14 percent, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.
The US Department of Agriculture said last week that the cost of Thanksgiving foods such as turkey, sweet potatoes, green beans, milk and potatoes only increased by 5 percent on average. It is unclear why the figure was lower than the private sector estimate.
Biden has received an ugly welcome during other recent trips to the highly democratic northeastern part of the country.
In September, Residents of North Jersey hacked Biden and also gave his cortege long fingers. “Resign, you tyrant!” shouted a man when Biden toured in a storm-damaged area.
And last month, Biden told a child at a playground in Connecticut that “I like children better than people” – when a crowd nearby shouted “F – k Joe Biden!”
Former President Trump also regularly drove past protesters. In 2007, a DC resident “remembered” a memorable Trump car procession as he made a trip up Connecticut Avenue from the White House.
