AMLO withdraws proposal: Herrera will not lead Banxico

Mexico City.– Since August last year, President López Obrador withdrew the proposal for Arturo Herrera, former Minister of Finance and Public Credit, to replace Alejandro Díaz de León as Governor of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).

Senator Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the Morena bench, confirmed the withdrawal of the proposal, which he attributed to a “personal” decision by the federal leadership.

The Union’s Permanent Commission had received the proposal to appoint Arturo Herrera Governor of Banxico since 13 July from 1 January next year.

Monreal said the Senate would have to wait for a new executive proposal to consider the appointment.
