Arieta was shaken by the Rockies, injured in Pedris Debue.

Denver (AP) – Jack Areta was caught by Colorado and walked away with an injury in his Pedres debut, and the Rockies beat San Diego 7-5 on Wednesday.

CJ Crown had two hits and three RBIs and Trevor Story made room for the Rockies, who scored five runs in 3 1/3 innings against Areta before the left hamstring was injured.

Areta (5-12) was signed by the Chicago Cabs on Monday. He allowed seven hits and allowed his ERA to increase to 7.13 on Dom Nance’s solo homer before his hamstring was caught and out of the game.

Will Myers twice made a home for the falling Pedres. San Diego have lost seven of eight, but Cincinnati still has a 1 1/2 game lead for the second NL Wild Card.

The Rockies took a 3-0 lead over Crown’s two-run double and Ryan McMahon’s single. Myers hit his first homer, a two-run shot in the second, and Manny Machado in the third to drive him to Areta.

In the fourth, Myers’ 15th homer put it back in the evening before Nunez’s shot.

The 16th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth, gave Colorado a three-run cushion.

Ben Bowden (2-2) allowed one run in an innings and Daniel Bard finished ninth for his 20th save on the 26th.

Trainer’s room

Pedres: LHP Matt Sturham was placed on a 10-day list of injured with inflammation of his right knee. Sturham, who made his debut in a Belpen game on Tuesday, missed right patella tendon surgery for the first four months of the season.

Rockies: To make room for starter Chi Chi Gonzalez on the active roster, OF Jonathan Daza (left thumb injury) was placed on a 10-day injury list. Manager Bud Blake said that Ramil Tapia (Monday) is improving but there is no timetable for his return.

Necessary work first

Colorado outfielder Connor Joe has done well since moving up the lineup. He reached the base in his first bat in all three games – home run on Monday, singles on Tuesday and lead of walk on Wednesday. He made the first run on Monday and Tuesday and was thrown out of the house on Wednesday.

Pedres: LHP Black Sunil (6-4, 4.80) opened a three-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.

Rockies: LHP Austin Gomber (9-7, 4.09) returned from the patrol list to open the weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.
