Rocky romero was a recent guest on Battleground Podcast. He discussed the working relationship between AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Romero also revealed it Wwe had reached out to NJPW earlier this year, something Vince McMahon’s marketing has done every few years.
He added that a working relationship between AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling was much more meaningful because Tony Khan’s marketing had a better understanding of the history of New Japan and how they worked:
“You know, I mean, I do not know how much I can actually say but I can say that they definitely reached out. You know, WWE definitely reached out as they do every X number of years, I feel like they reach out. I mean of course [Bryan] That Danielson was in the middle of it was no secret and it was no secret to Tony [Khan] Either or AEW so, obviously Tony was a part of it too when Bryan was completely free and clear to make those conversations with him so, so yeah. It was – many talked, do you know what I say? It’s talked about. I would not go so far as to say that there would ever be a deal or anything like that. “
“It’s just like, you know, WWE is coming and knocking on the door and they want to talk, people are going to listen to what they have to say but I obviously mean it’s two completely different things to work with AEW versus working with WWE “You know? AEW, they have a true understanding of New Japan and what the product is and have a full respect for the product’s history, for what the product is, for the wrestlers and how they do it,” says Rocky Romero.
