Biden tells Roker “America is Back” in a “surprise” parade call

President Biden called Al Roker on Thursday to land a participant in NBC’s coverage of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2021 – To repeat his “America is Back” mantra for the weatherman despite the fact that inflation and sky-high petrol prices have made this the most expensive turkey day ever.

Roker acted as if he were surprised, although the performance was unconvincing, as the president’s aides usually inform journalists in advance of such calls and TV news anchors rarely answer their phones in the middle of the broadcast.

Roker, who was standing on a street in New York, said on live TV: “Wait, my phone is ringing. One second. My God, look who’s calling! Hey, hey, Mr. President?”

“Hi, Al. How are you, buddy?” said Biden, who spends the holidays at a billionaire’s facility in Nantucket.

“Oh, Dr. Biden and Mr. President, thank you very much! Happy Thanksgiving to you!” in Roker.

Biden said, in clear reference to a previous guest, “A firefighter in New York -“

Roker said, “That’s right. We had a firefighter in New York here. And it’s so good – good thing you’re calling, thank you so much. What’s your message to the American people on this Thanksgiving day?”

Biden offered some positive spin, though his own declining approval rating middle of highest inflation in 31 years and a new cases of covid-19 almost two years into the pandemic.

This year, the classic Thanksgiving dinner in Turkey and the sides jumped 14 percent, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.

“My message is, after two years, you’re back, America’s back. There’s nothing we can not overcome, Al. And you’re one of the reasons for that, buddy. You’re always up, you’re always rooting,” Biden said.

Roker replied, “We appreciate it, Mr. President. Thank you very much. I hope you will continue to watch the parade. Santa is coming. Santa is coming, Mr. President!”

“I’m waiting for Santa,” Biden joked.

Biden signed the call and said, “wish we were there with you, Al. Nice to see you, buddy.”

Roker then returned to his false surprise and exclaimed to unknown viewers with presidential interview procedures: “How did he get my phone number? Well he’s the president of the United States, I guess he can do it!”

Roker beat Biden in January at the president’s inauguration parade in DC. And in 2013, he gave then-Vice President Biden a celebratory handshake at that parade.

Even if the NBC veteran personality only fired one question, it will likely count as one of Biden’s fewer than two dozen interviews so far as president – far fewer than his six most recent predecessors, including Ronald Reagan, who doubled Biden’s number of interviews. despite being shot in the lung two months after accession.
