Despicable father and son raped girls at the age of three

Father and son child rapists have been brought to justice for decades after they sexually abused and assaulted young girls.

One of 73-year-old Arthur William Bouditch’s victims was just three years old when he raped her, injuring her so badly that she required surgery. Bouditch’s son, Arthur Stephen Bouditch, now 54, has also become a sex offender and a child rapist, but there is no evidence that they molested together.

After pleading guilty to multiple counts of rape and indecent assault on girls in the 1980s and 1990s, the two were put to trial at Swansea Crown Court.

The court heard of the girls that William Bouditch had raped when she was just three years old, and that she needed surgery to repair the damaged tissue after the attack. He also sexually assaulted a girl with a rough wooden object. Stephen Boudich, one of the girls raped – at a location near the West Meczyki coast – had screamed for help during the attack, but her stepfather could not hear her scream because of the sound of the machinery mowing the grass. The court heard statements from Bouditch’s victims in which they detailed the emotional, psychological and physical effects of their abuse, including post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and suicide attempts. One said she was a victim but now a survivor, and that facing her abuse was her way of taking back control of her life; Another said that the “abusive” things done to her as a girl had taken away her childhood, but she had forgiven her abuser so that she could forget, let go of her hatred, and let the defendant down. “Don’t let any other part of my life take over”. One of the victims told how she had been called a liar and was not believed when she first reported the abuse.

Arthur William Bouditch, now of Selby Crescent, Swindon, Wiltshire, and Arthur Stephen Bouditch, now of Morse Close, Chippenham, Wiltshire, were previously convicted at trial when they appeared at the dock together. Boditch Jr. has received a previous sentence since 1989 for indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14.

An earlier sentencing hearing had to be adjourned when Boditch SNR failed to appear, even though his wife had dropped him off that morning at Swindon railway station. Detectives familiar with the case were sent to Swansea Station to examine CCTV, and the court heard that no trace of the defendant was found nor was there any evidence that he was on the train he was apprehended. Delays in sentencing hearings explained that Boditch had actually boarded the wrong train at Swindon and instead traveled to Swansea to reach Bristol where he had “engaged with people on the street” before collapsing in port. He then returned home where he was arrested and taken into custody by the Wilshire Police the next morning.

Judge Hugh Rees said the defendants’ victims were “childishly denied” by their actions, and added that the women’s statements were “annoying” to hear. He said that it is clear that the misbehavior by the defendants deeply affected the women. The judge said William Bouditch had acted out of “degenerate and unhealthy sexual lust”.

William Bouditch was given an extended sentence of 21 years which included 20 years in custody and an extended license of one year. Stephen Boudich was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Both will be registered sex offenders for life.

Custody photos of the defendants are not available.
