As impressive as Emmanuel Quickley’s strong rookie season was, Knicks’ head coach Tom Thebudo was even more impressed.
On the second day of the Hawks Knicks season, Quickley was at the MSG Training Center in Terry Town working on his game. He spent almost every day there during the summer. He applied to play in the NBA Summer League.
Success did not go to the young guard.
“I love this guy,” said Thebudo. صرف He just loves sports. There really aren’t many other things he does.
Quickley’s strong rookie season – he averaged 11.4 points and two assists, while shooting 38.9% from a 3-point range. He just wanted to experience it more.. To him, the only way to do that was to act like a bully. This continues during training camp, with the 6-foot-3 Quickley routinely coming to work at night at Nix’s facility.
“I think it’s a little bit who I am,” he said. “I learned from a couple of boys who were ahead of me in high school, that you have to work hard to be the best.
“It’s a formula for me that always works, and I’ll keep using it.”
Julius Randall (personal reasons) missed Friday’s practice and will not play in Saturday’s pre-season game against the Wizards. Asked if he was related to Randall’s wife, Kendra, who works as a laborer with her second child, Thebudo smiled and said, “That’s a good reason.”
Obi-Wan and Kevin Knox will replace Randall for an extra minute.
“We have good quality depth, and I want to take a look at some of them,” Thebudo said.
On Friday, the Knicks signed Guard Tyler Hall, who played for them in the Summer League and has been part of the G-League team for the past two seasons. Hall, 24, has an average of 9.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and two assists, while the 53G league games have a 41-percent shooting rate of 3 points. Last weekend, the Knicks opened a space after pardoning Luca Veldoza.
