How to travel to Maldives for a year and stay for free

Dreaming of escaping to a tropical paradise amidst the everyday monotony of your 9-5 is not an unusual fantasy.

But what if you could find a way to work while walking around in one of the world’s most spectacular places?

Looks like that dream can be your reality now that a bookstore in Maldives is looking for a book-loving traveller. run its shop For one year contract.

The only catch? You have to be barefoot the whole time.

The gig is offered at the Sonawa Fushi resort on the remote island of Kunfunadhu. The bookseller would be responsible for running the store and keeping track of finances and stock, among other responsibilities, as they would be the sole employee of the shop.

“The applicant will be there automatically, so they are completely driving themselves around,” said Alex McQueen, a Spokesman For Ultimate Library, which runs a bookstore. “Island’s ethos is no shoes, no news. They encourage guests to reconnect with the land.”

Barefoot Booksellers will be considered for free accommodation and meals for the duration of their contract and will have access to water sports, a gym, a spa and a private beach that is used entirely by island staff.

“The ideal candidate would be a team player with a passion for books and the ability to connect with guests of all ages,” listing reads. “He will have excellent written and oral English skills; a lively tone to write an entertaining blog that reflects the exhilarating life of a desert island bookseller and the skills to host workshops and other guest experiences.”

Basic pay is $750 per month, but booksellers will be allowed and encouraged to earn other income by hosting book-related events, such as workshops and “individual reading consultations,” for guests.

Application Must be submitted by August 8, 2022, and the employee will start work in October 2022.
