Indian manager Francona missed the other end of the cold

,

Cleveland (AP) Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona lost his second straight game on Sunday due to the cold.

Chris Antoniti, president of baseball operations, said Francona was still in the grip of the weather and the team’s medical staff felt he would benefit from another day at home. He will have more time to recover with the Indians on Monday.

“More than anything, we want to make sure it doesn’t get worse, and we’re trying to minimize the chances of it spreading,” Antoniti said. “He’s still not feeling well, but hopefully he’ll turn the corner soon.”

Antoniti said Francona, who is in his ninth season with Cleveland, had a negative COVID-19 test.

Returning from a recent road trip, several Indian athletes were experiencing congestion and other cold symptoms.

Francona, 62, also lost 8-2 to Tampa Bay on Saturday. The rays have defeated the Indians 11 times.

Indian bench coach De Marlowe Halle fills with Francona out.
