“It’s such an amazing feeling that I share it with my coach, I share it with my husband, with my family, with everyone who’s been a part of it,” he said. Her gold medal is hanging around her neck. “I want to cut it into small pieces and distribute it to everyone I love.”
While Kefer joined Mariel Zagonus as the only American fan to earn gold, Russia’s Larissa Korobenikova defeated Italy’s Alice Volpi 15-14 in bronze.
Kefer, 27, almost never made it to Tokyo. She initially decided to end her Olympic career after Rio 2016, but continued to compete internationally at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Kefer and Manhard built a fence in their family’s Lexton home to practice during the epidemic.
“We just tried to keep the baseline so we didn’t forget how to linger and our point control wasn’t too scary,” Kefer said. USAFencing.org. “But then we really went back to school, and so maybe for the first time in my life, I was a full-time student, and that was a different feeling.”

Kefer focuses on completing his work in family medicine, internal medicine, OB-GYN, psychiatry and neuroscience. After her time in Tokyo, she will return home to Kentucky to complete her pediatric and surgery rounds.
No. 2 Manhardt will compete in the men’s foil competition on Monday. Like Kaif, his life will be fast after sports. The final competition will take place on August 1, while the second year of medical school will begin on August 2.
