Litter bugs strike again

Recently, I was stunned to see that garbage was being dumped in the bottle bank. It’s probably a waste of time to ask the people responsible to come back and clean up, but they may be asking themselves ‘who is going to clean up your trash’.

Our community is very fortunate to have these facilities but they can be taken back if some petty disrespecters keep on dumping. If the banks are full one can call Cork County Council and request them to be emptied. Please stop dumping in the bottle bank. Take your trash home.

Garda advice regarding fake phone calls

We are all being asked to be extra vigilant and more alert to the phone calls we may get from people claiming to be from financial institutions such as banks, post offices or government agencies trying to obtain information. So that they can take money from our bank accounts. ,

If you get a call that you are concerned about, or that makes you suspicious in any way, or if you are not sure if the call is genuine it is a good idea to call, look up the organization’s number in the phone book, Old details or letters you have received posted or online (don’t return the number as it may be a wrong number) and ask for help. Explain to them that you got a call from them looking for personal information and that you wanted to investigate the matter.

You can also call your local Garda station and let them know about your concerns if you are looking for your bank statement for money from a financial or government agency. The calls can sound very real, and often use intimidation to extort money from you. It’s okay for agencies to hang up and redial with their real, official number for help. You won’t have any trouble double-checking the validity of any such call, but it can be costly if you don’t.
