Petrolera Lukoil discovers a field of about 250 million barrels in Mexico, El Siglo de Torreón



The Russian oil company Lukoil, discovered a new oil field off the coast of Mexico, reserves estimated at up to 250 million barrels of crude oil, the company reported today.

The field was discovered after drilling in the Yoti-Oeste-1 EXP well, in block 12, of the semi-submersible platform “Valaris 8505” about 60 kilometers off the Mexican coast. in the Gulf of Mexico, Lukoil said in a statement.



Drilling of the well revealed a sandy reservoir in the upper Miocene sediments with a net thickness of about 25 meters.

“Based on the drilling results, it is planned to prepare an evaluation plan for the Yoti-Oeste field,” Lukoil added.

The company received through its subsidiary in Mexico 2017 the right to prospect and produce hydrocarbons in block 12.



The area covers 521 kilometers squares and the Italian oil company Eni (with a 40% share) are also participating in the project.

Previously, Lukoil explains, in block 10 on the Mexican coast and where the Russian company owns 20% and Eni is the operator, two exploration wells have also been successfully drilled.
