A Maryland man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stabbing a woman in the hip with a syringe filled with her semen.
Thomas Brian Steman, 52, was seen attacking Katie Peters at Christopher Fine Foods in Churchton in February 2020, a community in Ann Arundel County. According to Fox 5 DC..
Steiman, who recently moved from Ohio and served six sentences from 1986 to 1996, pleaded guilty in June 2020.
The victim called police on February 18, 2020, to report the attack, which took place while she was returning her grocery cart to the store. He said a white man hit him and he felt a sting in his hip.
When he asked the man if he had lit it with a cigarette, he reportedly said, “Yeah, it felt like a bee sting, didn’t it?”
When she returned home, she saw a small red spot and a puncture wound – and a wet substance on her pants, officials said.
Respondent Ann Arundel County Police reviewed the surveillance video, which showed a white man following the victim, pulling something out of his pocket and pushing against him.
The next day, the victim noticed a large round red area on her hip and requested treatment at Ann Arundel Medical Center.
Police released footage showing the same man hanging out with two other women in an attempt to track down the attacker. Steman was arrested after receiving police suggestions.
Police obtained a search warrant for his home and vehicle, in which officers inserted a large syringe into the driver’s door containing an unknown liquid.
“Other syringes were found at the defendant’s residence, including a syringe containing an unknown substance,” the county said on its website. “The same suit, pants and shoes recovered from the house were the same as the defendant was seen wearing in the surveillance video.”
Police also found a search warrant for Steman’s DNA, which matched the semen found in the car.
On June 16, 2020, Steiman filed a petition with the so-called Alford for a count of a serious first-degree attack and a count of a second-degree attack. Under the petition, he maintains his innocence but acknowledges that the state has evidence that could potentially convict him. If it goes to trial.
He received five years of probation and was ordered to undergo substance abuse and mental health checks.
Steman also confessed to a second-degree assault on a 17-year-old girl who was unharmed, officials said.
