Strange marks appear on Colmore Row as the reason behind them is revealed.

The head of Victoria Square in Birmingham’s historic Colmore Conservation District is shaped like a scowgle, resembling the Greek alphabet from the untrained eye.

The road surface between the junction with Colmore Road floor and the junction with Bennett Hill / Newhall Street and the beginning of Waterloo Street has been developed as part of the latest downtown area that will be preceded by a change. Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games When competitors in all four categories of the marathon race run to the finish line in Victoria Square on Saturday, July 30th.

On a section of the road where all car parking spaces on the road have now been replaced with double yellow lines, surveyors have identified the location of key underground facilities. This process underscores the complexity of transforming the city center into an ‘urban circle’.

According to local road signs, work is underway until July 1, but most of the redevelopment work will not begin until after the games, which run from July 28 to August 8.

Victoria Square already has a temporary Ikon gallery, called the ‘Foreign Exchange’, and banners hung below Birmingham Town Hall in 1834, with the arrival of a boat on top of the statue of Queen Victoria. The famous Iron Man statue of Sir Anthony Gormley also returned in March

From June 27 to July 17, the 25th anniversary celebrations, called The Healing Gardens of Bab, will be held at nearby Chamberlain Square, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Symphony Hall and other venues.

The event is being described by organizers as a “paradise that will elevate alternative expressions of gender, sexuality and family.” There is a place to celebrate that is not. Can be translated into English. Together we will create our future folk tales. “

Another event called Polynions will run in Victoria Square from 2 September to 18 September, starting with the ‘Grand Final Weekend’ on Thursday 15 September – to the ‘extraordinary diversity of the British people and plants’. Designed to celebrate. The migration quest will include a 40-foot-tall architectural super-tree sanctuary, an epic jungle garden full of plant life, and a drag-makeover dome.

CPC Souls will be the contractor for the Victoria Square & K Main Overhaul on Colmore Road, which has recently worked with expert contractor Fountain Direct to restore the flossy at Jacuzzi Water Fountain.

From August to October 2023, the company will rebuild the entire section of Victoria Square, as well as the entire Colmore Row and Waterloo Street loop. As part of the research process, local businesses were asked if they had any basements that were spread out on the floor or under the road.

The company’s website says: “The task will involve small teams removing existing paving, upgrading drainage systems and substations, and then installing a new pavement in all of these areas.

“CPC Civil will conduct a full stakeholder engagement to ensure that those who may be affected are fully engaged with our work so that we can reduce any disruption to business and the general public. Be able to adopt plans to reduce. “

Changing such areas may take longer than the average person expects. Most of last year was spent rebuilding part of Cornwall Street from New Market Street to New Hall Street.

And it took almost two years until last Christmas to rebuild the sidewalk between Snow Hill Station and the Great Western Arcade.

The section of Colmore Road between the Grand Hotel and Birmingham Cathedral is also about to change.

What a lie

As an example of the complexity of cities below ground level, there have been several underground fires in recent years, all captured in video.

On November 30 last year, a 50-meter exit zone was set up after an underground fire was filmed near the entrance to Dirty Martini.

On June 3, 2017, another fire broke out in an underground junction box along Waterloo Street.

At about 4:20 pm on Friday, November 1, 2019, an electric fire erupted near the entrance to the Tim Hortons Coffee Shop on the corner of Lower Temple Street and New Street. A 100-meter siege was made while firefighters contained the blaze and investigated the cause.

Construction of the West Midlands Metro Lineup Broad Street was flooded in September 2019 and April 2020 – for other reasons, Tram Services has not yet begun the West Side Phase 2 expansion service since it was launched last year. She was due to start walking in December.
