The extraordinary charity work of the magnificent Nakamba continues in Zimbabwe.

Austin Villa midfielder Marvelis Nakamba continues to give back to the communities of Zimbabwe who shaped him into a boy with a dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Nakamba grew up in Bulawayo and played for Zimbabwean clubs Highlanders and Bento Rovers before moving to France to join Nancy in 2012. After five years and seven Champions League appearances, Nakamba joined Premier League club Villa from club Brugge for 11 million. As one of Zimbabwe’s most successful footballers, his platform is to start a charitable foundation that helps returnees.

The Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF) was founded in 2019 and aims to use the power of sports and education to give back to communities in Zimbabwe. In April last year, the MNF announced that it had managed to pay 1,000 school fees because parents were struggling to cover those costs.

The students were selected through the recommendations of the school staff, which focused on the underprivileged. Following the MNF’s announcement that the charity paid school fees to 1,500 children in 21 schools in five provinces through its Education Assistance Program (EAP) in February 2020.

The Zimbabwean publication described him as “a champion for both aspiring footballers and vulnerable children in society”. HeraldNakamba has also vowed to fight child marriage in his country. Earlier this week, Nakamba was present when UNICEF Zimbabwe held a press conference ahead of African Children’s Day, which will land in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, on June 16.

In Zimbabwe, statistics show that one in three women between the ages of 20 and 49 is married off before the age of 18, and Nakamba is determined to fight for change. He said at the ceremony: “I stand up for what is right in society. I come from a low-lying, downtrodden background. I’ve lived in a ghetto and you know when you grow up, you Sees a lot of weird things happening.

“I stand for what is right and I am going to try my best to help and use my brand. Girls have been backward in society for years and we have to fight to end it.”

During the off-season, the Nakamba Foundation is also sponsoring the Under-17 Invitational Tournament, which kicks off next weekend in Bulawayo. Nakamba’s father and MNF chairman, Anthony Nakamba, At the beginning of the ceremony said: “The Marvels Nakamba Foundation had a dream that Marvels always has to bring about positive change in communities, especially for young people. It has become a global sport, an ambassador and role model for many young people in Zimbabwe and Africa.

“Shandar grew up as a boy who loved football and as his family, we nurtured his talents and made sure that he did everything possible to fulfill his dream. We are proud of you as a family and the Marvels Nakamba Foundation.

The youth tournament will be held at the White City Stadium on June 25 and 26, and Nakamba added: “Grassroots football is vital to the survival of the game. I was given the opportunity. From now on, it is appropriate for us to continue the tradition of supporting the game at the grassroots level, “said Nakamba, who was trained at the famous Bento Rovers Academy in Bolivia.

Nakamba’s Charity Foundation has also taken the latest steps in a major project that will help shape the future of many underprivileged children in its hometown of Bulawayo. You can read more about this story here. Here
