the world needs A company willing to force governments to act on climate change.
So far, the climate has been the humble corner of the tech startup world. Cheers and thanks to all, triple bottom lines and shared upsides, plenty of virtuous and virtuous signs.
It’s great and all. Saving the world from potential disaster is a respectable mission statement, probably depending on the way companies do business. And of course the world could use more kindness, not less.
But here’s the thing: Right now, the world is moving very slowly, on track for 2.7C warming by 2100, far below the 1.5C target in the Paris Agreement. Now is not the time for beauties. We need a climate tech startup that throws its weight around and pushes growth over sclerotic governments and companies.
In short, the world needs a climate tech startup that’s like the Uber of the early days, a company that doesn’t take no for answers, one that tackles a tangled, slow-moving industry bound by regulation. So, with a deep pocket and a long game eye on whether it should be successful, everyone will want to sign up as a customer. There can be good reward for the startup and its investors.
