The Senate elects Loretta Ortiz as the new Minister for the Court

The plenary session was held on Tuesday afternoon Senate elected lawyer Loretta ortiz as the new Minister for SCJN, in the place she leaves vacant Fernando Franco González.

With 92 votes out of 114 Loretta ortiz, will be the fourth female member of The nation’s highest court and will remain in office for 15 years.

In days gone by President López Obrador pHe proposed three candidates: Loretta Ortiz, Verónica de Gyvés and Bernardo Bátiz.

Some opposition senators criticized the shortlists proposed by AMLO, as they claim that being persons nominated by the President could violate the principle of neutrality.


Loretta Ortiz Ahlf have 66 years adult and served as an advisor to Federal Justice (CJF). She was appointed to hold the position from November 20, 2019 to November 19, 2024. She was also an advisor in National Commission on Human Rights and federal deputies from 2012 to 2015.
