That photo was not there, I’m sure.

“And I did not put it on me”, everyone swears and perjures.

It appeared on the album I do not know how or when. On that sheet was only the portrait of Nolita, which is how they called Manuelita de Ábrego, the youngest daughter of Don Ignacio de Ábrego y Navarro, the first owner of hacienda.

Nolita loved a man from Santiago whose name she forgot. Don Ignacio forbade marriage because the suitor had no assets. He was looking for silver in the direction of Cerralvo, but had found nothing but stones.

Nolita was single then. He later devoted himself to caring for his parents and nephews. When the agrarian thing, the hacienda was lost. She went to Saltillo and there she died alone and poor. There was no more memory of her than the pale portrait in the family album.

The second picture appeared next to Nolitas. He’s an elegantly dressed gentleman. In the background you can see a small palace, perhaps his residence, and the man rests one foot on the skateboard of a luxury car. He has a crooked smile on his face.

That photo was not there, I’m sure.

“And I did not put it on me”, everyone swears and perjures.

Until tomorrow!…
