We need to be dreamers – Antonio Conte teases big plans for Tottenham season

Antonio Conte believes the sense of anticipation around Tottenham is justified given their transfer activity and wants fans to dream big before the start of the new season.

The Purse entertained Southampton in their Premier League debut on Saturday, with the club enjoying one of its strongest and most stable summers in a long time, with several signings on the show.

The arrival of Ivan Perisic in May got the ball rolling before Fraser Forster, Yves Bisouma, Richardson and Jade Spence also joined Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona. Looks like Tottenham are not done there and that has raised hopes.

Conte sent a message to supporters on the eve of his first match, with Manchester City and Liverpool troubling the Apple Cart looking like an impossible goal.

He said: “I have to be realistic, but I am a dreamer. We need to be dreamers because if you are a dreamer then work can bring something incredible into your life as well.

“This has happened many times in the past but at the same time, you have to be realistic and look at the reality.

“It is good for our fans to be excited because if they see that we are going in the right direction with a good vision, that the club is fully involved in this project and process, they have to be excited for these reasons. And the player and I will go together. ,

Parallels can be drawn between Conte’s feelings and the attitude of the late Bill Nicholson, Tottenham manager, when he was last English champion in 1961.

Nicholson memorably recalled: “It is better to fail a high goal than to succeed a low. At Spurs we place our vision too high, so that even failure resonates with pride.”

The spectacular failure has been synonymous with Tottenham since the Nicholson era, but many supporters believe that Conte could at least end the club’s trophy drought which dates back to 2008.

“Definitely the fans are right to be excited. I am excited because I am happy and living this time with joy, ”the Italian insisted.

“We are on the right track and have followed a path. If we are good enough to follow this path, we can reach a critical level in the future.

“Only after seven months if I start talking about Premier League and Champions League and winning this trophy or that trophy, it will be arrogant and arrogant, but from my experience I think we started a good path is and should continue to be followed.

“It takes time and patience for a team and club to grow and be competitive every season and fight to win something, but we must fight to do our best to win something and then we will see.”

Conte and the rest of his Premier League rival managers must take a six-and-a-half-week break from competition during the winter months this season.

The Qatar World Cup begins on 21 November and runs until 18 December, when domestic top-flight football resumes on Boxing Day, leaving the real meaning of the unknown.

I have to be realistic, but I am a dreamer. We need to be dreamers because if you are a dreamer then along with work can also bring something incredible in your life.Antonio Conte

He said: “It will be the first time we have faced this situation and we don’t know what is the best way to face the two parts of the season.

“In my opinion – and what I’ve asked my physical coach – is to work out for these four months and prepare very well and focus on these four months. The most important thing is to get good results and work for the future. Try not to think.

“It will be very important step by step, game by game, then you start the Champions League and you have to be ready to beat your group and then we will see. A lot of strange things can happen.”
