When and at what time to see the launch of DART? – The financial

Do you remember that fantasy where a ship is sent to explode an asteroid and thus save the earth? Well, that sci-fi movie script has come true and this Wednesday you can enjoy it live.

Before the arrival of possible meteorites affecting the earth, POT launched a planetary defense mission where they send a ship to intentionally crash into the asteroid to destroy it.

The flight known as the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) plans to obtain information and data on how it can divert a threat to Land.

But do not worry, there is no threat … for now

NASA has clarified that the asteroid that will redirect DART is not a threat to Earth. This is a test site to see if intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid is an effective way to change its course.

The asteroid Dimorphos is the target of the DART demonstration, which is 163 meters in diameter and orbits the asteroid Didymos with a diameter of 780 meters, which orbits about 11 million kilometers from Earth.

How will I be able to track the DART flight?

At this point, the launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket will take place from Vandenberg Air Force Base (California), although it can also be seen for a few minutes from Baja California and some regions of Sonora and Sinaloa.

According to the Johns Hopkins APL Twitter account, the start will take place at 12:21 on Wednesday, November 24 (Central Mexico time), as long as there are no last minute weather delays or emergencies.

The launch can be followed through the account for NASA YouTube and through their social networks, they can be followed minute by minute.
