Within an hour of Birmingham, two country pubs were named the best in the Midlands and the UK

With its historic beams and old country charm, Birmingham’s two historic country pubs have been named the best in the Midlands and across the country in less than an hour. He inspired the judges to win the title at the 2022 National Pub and Bar Awards.

The Frogmill, a 16th-century pub, was named the best pub in the Coates Valley, in Shipton Olaf. Filled with character, the recently renovated dog-friendly hotel is in a magnificent rock country inn.

The Riverside was named the best pub in the West Midlands, near Leicester, near Worcestershire, just off the M5. Its chef, Andy Link, was named the country’s best pub chef at this year’s annual awards ceremony.

Both The Riverside at Aymestrey and The Frogmill were among the only 15 pubs to win a prestigious regional award. He then went on to win the national title with The Riverside.

The Frogmill is located on the outskirts of Cheltenham, in the village of Coates Waldz in Shipton Olaf. The pub team was praised for its “flawless operation, attention to detail and genuine hospitality”.

This is not just a traditional bar but a restaurant and boutique bedrooms for the night. The Frog Mill has also become a popular wedding venue in the region due to its views of landscaped gardens and rolling hills.

Simon Stanbrook, general manager of The Froogle, said: “I am overwhelmed.

“It’s part of the Honeycomb Houses mantra – treat your team like family, treat your guests like friends and homes like homes. We welcome people as you do in your own home.”

It’s a success story for Brakspear, which bought The Frogmill in 2016 and underwent major renovations before reopening in 2018.

Riverside in Aymestrey is a food lead pub and country inn and is inspired by its menu, which uses locally sourced and fodder ingredients. “It’s a real celebration of her local area,” said the organizers of the awards.

Unilever went to The Riverside’s Endlink at the pub chef of the year in Amsterdam, which leads a menu that includes dishes such as the Hayfordshire Snails, Cuard River Trout and Barley Resoto.

The pub is proud: “Everything at Riverside is freshly baked and baked on site; including our rocky earthenware bread, grass and meadowweed ice cream and lavender fudge.”
