Women seeking new housewife with ‘masculine energy’ applaud ‘marketing genius’ for ad on dating app Grindr

A trio of women looking for the ideal housewife with some ‘masculine energy’ have been dubbed ‘marketing geniuses’ after they advertised a spare room for rent on GRINDR.

Cleodhana Heffernan said that their only female home had a room available and wanted to ‘change things up a bit’, they set out in search of a male housewife.

Despite sharing ads on common platforms, including Spareroom, they couldn’t find that particular person who was the ‘right fit’.

The 27-year-old said her gay best friend suggested they advertise the vacancy on Grindr, a dating app for gay, bi, trans and queer people, which she did.

But when the buying assistant woke up, he was flooded with messages from potential housemates and a tweet shared online of the ad went viral, garnering over 22,000 likes and retweets.

Cleodhana, from Birmingham, West Midlands, said: “We had a house with four girls and one of them was moving out. We weren’t adamant that we wanted to bring a man in, but we thought it was A nice change would be. Bring a little bit of masculine energy into the house and change things up.

“It was never a discussion of ‘Oh We Want a Gay Man,’ it was just ‘Oh We Want a Man.

“We guys came home and it wasn’t the right fit and I had a discussion with my gay best friend L and was just saying we haven’t found anyone yet and he was like ‘why don’t you just make a profile. And advertise on the grinder?’

“I’d never thought of taking that approach before. Obviously, we had it on the spareroom, so I didn’t really think anything of it and just profiled.”

Cleodhana said she moved from hairdresser Alice Henry, 28, and sales operations manager Shannon Creen, 25, to their current home in Birmingham in August, a month later.

The 27-year-old said her phone had been ringing “non-stop” since making the ad on Wednesday night and the next morning she received hundreds of messages from newcomers and fans at home.

Cleodhana said: “I’ve seen people comment ‘oh, these girls are just looking for a lesbian best friend’ and it wasn’t like we sat around and went ‘oh my god, how can we be friends’ ‘With a gay man?’ It was not so at all.

“I think the whole process behind it was, a lot of my close friends here are gay and we’re very involved in the gay community so every weekend since I came [from Ireland]We’re out in the gay village of Birmingham.

“It felt like it would be a good idea to explore that option and that a gay man would probably be a good fit.

“But having said that, I messaged people on Grindr who said they were straight or bisexual and asked ‘Are you just looking for a gay man?’ And I made it clear that ‘no, we weren’t specifically looking for a gay man, we were looking for someone’.

“Our main point is that we are a very social household. There is always someone out there, a lot of us work from home most of the time and we just want someone who fits in.
